What the generic tools do well
Dispatch boards, route planning, quoting catalogues, recurring invoicing and large ecosystems of add-ons. If your work is mostly scheduling people to jobs and billing them, they are mature and inexpensive.
Where NDT is different
The person must hold a current certificate for the method and level; the instrument must be in calibration against traceable standards; the report must follow a method-specific, code-referenced template; and an accreditation assessor will trace a report back through all of it. Generic tools have no concept of any of this, so it lives in spreadsheets beside them.
Where AMPS sits
AMPS keeps personnel and equipment certificates on dedicated personnel and equipment pages, and its flag system warns one month before a certificate, calibration document or scheduled inspection falls due, so managers always know what is missing or expiring. In AMPS, reports are produced from your own Microsoft Word templates through the template engine: job data such as the client, purchase order number, equipment serial numbers, location and dates is filled in automatically, an AI assistant can tidy the wording, the report can be signed in AMPS, and the finished Word file is saved in the job’s report folder in your OneDrive, SharePoint or Google Drive. AMPS runs the job pipeline from creation and assignment through execution, reporting, timesheets and closure; a job marked ready for invoicing is visible to administrative staff in real time and the invoice is created in Xero. Where a generic tool is stronger, for example an offline native app or a built-in dispatch board, this table says so. Two things generic tools rarely offer: documents stored in your own OneDrive, SharePoint or Google Drive rather than on vendor servers, and access controlled entirely by your Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace single sign-on.
