# Recertification and renewal of NDT certificates

> Recertification is the periodic renewal of an NDT certificate, by evidence of continued work and vision (renewal) or by re-examination (recertification), at the intervals set by the certification scheme.

- SNT-TC-1A: interval and method set by the employer's Written Practice, commonly 3 to 5 years
- Annual near-vision (Jaeger) and colour-vision tests are required by most schemes
- A lapsed certificate means the technician cannot sign or, in some schemes, perform tests until re-examined

## Why it is a management problem

A mid-sized inspection company holds hundreds of dated documents: method certificates, vision tests, site inductions, working-at-heights and confined-space tickets, radiation licences. Each lapses on a different date, and a lapse discovered during a client audit invalidates reports.
