# Calibration certificate

> A calibration certificate is the document issued by a calibration laboratory recording the as-found and as-left readings of an instrument against traceable reference standards, with measurement uncertainty, environmental conditions and the date, from which the user sets the next due date.

## Key facts

- Should come from an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory (NATA, IANZ, UKAS, A2LA mark) to satisfy traceability requirements
- The certificate states results and uncertainty; the calibration interval and due date are the user's responsibility
- Applies to flaw detectors, thickness gauges, reference blocks, yokes, light meters, thermometers, gauges and densitometers
- An instrument used past its due date can invalidate every report it produced

Also known as: calibration cert, calibration report, cal cert.

## What assessors check

That each instrument in the equipment register has a current certificate, that the certificate is from an accredited provider for the relevant quantities, that the interval is justified, and that out-of-tolerance results were assessed for impact on past work.

## Calibration certificates in AMPS

The AMPS shutdown case study lists equipment calibration forms among the documents tracked on the equipment page. AMPS keeps personnel and equipment certificates on dedicated personnel and equipment pages, and its flag system warns one month before a certificate, calibration document or scheduled inspection falls due, so managers always know what is missing or expiring. Documents saved through AMPS live in your own OneDrive, SharePoint or Google Drive, not on AMPS servers, so an existing QA folder structure keeps working unchanged and everything stays yours if you ever stop using AMPS.
